Víkingur is run by Kajan Bulić, an individual sole trader based in Iceland. By creating an account or using the app, you're agreeing to these terms. If something here doesn't make sense, email hello@vikingur.app before you sign up — happy to clarify anything.
Víkingur is an AI-powered Icelandic learning app. It is a web app that is not yet open to the public, and it works in a phone's browser; an iPhone app is to follow. Every lesson is generated for you personally based on your profile, interests, and progress.
You need an account to use Víkingur. You're responsible for keeping your login details secure and for anything that happens under your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else has access to it.
New accounts get a 7-day free trial with full access to the app. A card is required to start the trial. Unless you cancel before it ends, the trial automatically converts into a paid subscription on day 8, and you'll be charged the subscription price shown at signup. We'll email you before that happens, so it's never a surprise.
You can cancel anytime — during the trial or afterward — from Settings: a trial cancels right on its own card, and a paid plan opens Paddle's billing portal. No retention flow, no hoops either way. Cancelling during the trial means you're never charged. Cancelling an active subscription stops future billing, but you keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for.
Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually, depending on what you choose. Prices are shown in euros at checkout before you commit to anything.
All payments are handled by Paddle.com, our payment provider. Paddle acts as the Merchant of Record for every transaction — meaning that, legally, you're buying your subscription from Paddle, not directly from us. Paddle handles billing, invoicing, sales tax/VAT, and payment security. Your card details go to Paddle, not to us.
The 7-day free trial is the try-before-you-pay: every feature, no charge, and cancelling inside it means the card is never touched. After a charge has gone through, email hello@vikingur.app from your account address and say what happened — a forgotten cancellation caught quickly, a double charge, or anything that looks wrong gets looked at by a person, case by case. None of this limits any statutory rights you have where you live.
Because Paddle is the Merchant of Record, refunds themselves are processed by Paddle, and any billing disputes or chargebacks go through them directly — but start with the email; it's faster and a person reads it.
The full policy is on its own page: Refund Policy.
Everything has a stated limit, listed in full before you pay — that is how the service stays fast and affordable for everyone. These apply equally during your trial and as a paying subscriber, and you will not meet them by learning normally:
| What | Limit | Resets |
|---|---|---|
| Daily lesson | 1 auto-generated lesson — the whole daily plan | Midnight UTC |
| Conversation practice sessions | 2 per day, 20 turns per session | Midnight UTC |
| Sidebar tools (translate, decode, etc.) | 20 uses per day, combined | Midnight UTC |
| Voice conversation | 20 minutes per day | Midnight UTC |
| Total new AI-generated material | A generous daily and 30-day ceiling across everything above | Midnight UTC; the 30-day window rolls daily |
The last row is a backstop rather than a limit you are meant to plan around: it sits well above the individual limits above and exists so that no single account can consume enough to make the service unaffordable for everyone else. In normal use you will never encounter it. We do not publish the exact figure because it is measured in the AI provider's own accounting units rather than in anything meaningful to you, and because we adjust it as models and their costs change — but it is always set above what the per-feature limits above would let a person reach in a day.
These limits are set generously, well above what a normal daily learner would ever hit. If you do reach one, you'll never see a hard error — just a friendly message telling you when it lifts. There's no upsell when this happens; you're already a subscriber.
You agree not to:
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
Víkingur is built to make learning Icelandic genuinely effective, and we take that seriously. But language learning depends heavily on your own time, consistency, and effort — we can't and don't guarantee any specific outcome, fluency level, or timeline. Nothing in the app or in our marketing should be read as a promise of results.
The app, its content, design, and underlying technology belong to us (or our licensors). Your own content — things you type, like phrasebook entries or conversation responses — remains yours. By using the app, you grant us the right to process that content as needed to actually run the service (for example, sending it to our AI providers to generate a reply).
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, or if we need to shut down or materially change the service — in which case we'll give you reasonable notice where practical.
Víkingur is provided "as is." We do our best to keep it accurate, available, and reliable, but we don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or perfectly accurate at all times — including AI-generated content, which can occasionally be wrong.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited, such as liability for gross negligence or intentional harm.
We may update these terms as the product evolves. If we make a material change, we'll update the date at the top and email you before it takes effect.
These terms are governed by the laws of Iceland, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Questions about these terms: hello@vikingur.app.
